We only need to make it through one more month.

I am pretty patient. I can wait in line to try that new brunch place. I can wait a year or two for the new phone. But I cannot. Wait. Any. Longer. For. Westworld season two.

Luckily, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. HBO announced that the second season will premiere on April 22nd, which means I only have to find a couple more shows to fill my time before it starts.

So, while we wait, here are four shows and movies to watch:

Westworld — The Movie

Yes, there was a Westworld that existed before Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, and Ed Harris. Written and directed in 1973 by Michael Crichton, the movie splits its time between various parts of the Delos theme park: Westworld (the American old west), Medievalworld (medieval Europe), and Romanworld (the ancient Roman city of Pompeii). The movie spends the majority of the time setting up the park and how it works, and doesn’t go into as much detail or backstory about the human characters. Still, it provides fascinating context and interesting parallels to the TV show, making me even more excited for season two. Rent the movie on your Fire TV, only $3.99 in HD.

Black Mirror on Netflix

For a dark interpretation of our future relationship with technology, tune in to Black Mirror. Each episode features a different storyline with completely new characters, but always speaks to how technology (smart phones, implants, smart homes, etc.) will affect our lives, for better or for worse. If you’re new to the series, make sure to watch “San Junipero” (episode four, season three), which won two Emmys for Outstanding TV Movie and Outstanding Writing for a TV Movie.

Ex Machina

Alicia Vikander delivers a stunning performance as Ava, an AI in the lifelike form of a young woman. Domhnall Gleeson is then tasked to perform the ultimate Turing test with Ava, even though he know she is a robot. The result is a subtle, complex game between AI and human, where the viewer doesn’t quite know who is playing whom. Rent the movie on your Fire TV, only $3.99 in HD.

Humans

Co-produced between AMC and the U.K.’s Channel 4, “Humans” examines a world where people co-exist with synthetic beings (Synths) who clean their houses, cook dinner, and more. But what happens when these Synths are given the right to consciousness and their own free will? The show doesn’t have clear villains or heroes, which adds additional layers of complexities to the characters. It also makes us stop and think about our reliance on the latest devices and apps, and how that can impact our society in the long run. Stream for free with your Prime membership.
